Beyond the Screen by A.J. Cameron6/12/2023 For the time being, the prospect of meeting the folk-rock legend, albeit intriguing, was not especially exciting.Ī.J.’s brother Marcus Eaton, however, was very excited. But beyond a basic appreciation for CSNY, Eaton was not particularly a fan. Like anyone with even the most cursory American-pop-culture-and-tabloid literacy, Eaton was familiar with David Crosby’s popular hits and personal misses - those predominantly self- inflicted trials and tribulations that tended to overshadow the music. Eaton remembers the first encounter well - a casual hang some eight years ago that would prove fateful, though it hardly felt so at the time. “I was astonished that he was even still going.”Ī.J. Rebecca daphne6/12/2023 On top of everything else, she was also an avid historian. In addition to her seven novels and numerous short stories, du Maurier also wrote twelve books of non-fiction, including an autobiography. The novel was an instant bestseller and has never gone out of print ( source). Published in 1938, Rebecca is the fifth novel by Cornish author Daphne du Maurier, also known as Lady Browning. de Winter, who finds herself living in the shadows of Maxim's first wife ( that's Rebecca, although we never meet her). It's narrated by Maxim's second wife, known only as Mrs. It's actually the story of the wealthy, dashing, and creepy widower, Maxim de Winter, and his fabulous country estate, Manderley. Rebeccais the story of a woman named Rebecca… oh wait. Books like bel canto6/11/2023 We love original content and self-posts! GRUM! by Robyn Hill6/11/2023 Despite this however, Robyn has shown she tries to be reasonable about things. Robyn has a direct and confident personality, having no trouble being confrontational with Atlas personnel, including the Ace Operatives. She wields her weapon, a crossbow, on her left arm. She also wears a pair of black archery styled gloves with the index finger missing on both of them. Around her neck she wears an olive green scarf with tattered looking tails hanging behind her. She also wears a brown belted waist clincher with matching brown pants tucked into black knee-high boots with dark brown cuffs. Robyn wears a black sleeveless coat with gray accents over a red double-breasted sleeveless vest, a brown high neck shirt, and a light gray short-sleeved shirt with one right short sleeve that has a black cuff whilst the other sleeve is longer. She has a beauty mark under her right eye and another one on the left side under her mouth. Her light-blond hair is tied in a ponytail. Robyn is a young woman with tanned skin and violet eyes. Admiral by sean danker6/11/2023 I also loved Zoe Chant’s shifter romances Firefighter Pegasus and Firefighter Griffin, which are follow-ups to Firefighter Dragon. But despite knowing he needs to return to Akielos to oust his brother, Damen starts falling for sharp-tongued, twisty Laurent…There’s plenty of erotic romance, intrigue, and witty dialogue in this. Even worse, Damen winds up in the hands of Vere’s Prince Laurent–and Damen was the one who killed Laurent’s beloved older brother in battle several years ago. It’s no-magic fantasy about Damen, prince of Akielos, who is betrayed by his half-brother and sent to be a pleasure slave in the neighboring kingdom of Vere. The three books are The Captive Prince, Prince’s Gambit, and Kings Rising Kings Rising came out earlier Pacat, which I discovered this year–it meant that I didn’t have to wait for each volume as it came out! Possibly my favorite was the Captive Prince trilogy by C.S. Today Smugglivus 2016 welcomes to the blog Yoon Ha Lee, author of one of our favourite books of 2016, Ninefox Gambit. Puslu Kıtalar Atlası by İhsan Oktay Anar6/11/2023 This character appears in several of Anar’s books and is based on the author himself, who is six feet four inches tall. The nephew İhsan is called Uzun İhsan, which translates as İhsan the Long. You may have noted that this is also the name of the author. İhsan is now taking Alibaz to his nephew and great-nephew. He ran riot on the ship, damaged the key cannon, which meant they had to flee from another ship and only just made it and stole large amounts of the booty they captured. İhsan is covered in tattoos and scars and has just returned from an expedition which did not go quite as well as he hoped, primarily because of Alibaz, a slave he captured. The characters are not always human – the characters with a colourful story include a bear, a monkey and a book. Every character we meet has a colourful story behind him, with Anar giving full rein to his inventiveness in each case. Indeed, the first person we meet is a pirate. The geopolitical situation, however, does not really concern our characters. The book is set in the late seventeenth century, when the Ottoman Empire was pushing into Europe, culminating in the failed Siege of Vienna. Home » Turkey » İhsan Oktay Anar » Puslu Kıtalar Atlası İhsan Oktay Anar: Puslu Kıtalar Atlası Īs you can see below, this novel has been translated into French, German and Korean, but not English, which is somewhat surprising, as this novel is one of those romps through history, with a host of colourful characters, a wildly historically inaccurate scenario, lots of improbabilities and lots of fantasy/magic realism. The Mediterranean diet is one of three healthy diets recommended in the 2015–2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, along with the DASH diet and vegetarian diet. The Mediterranean diet may help with weight loss in obese people. In 2017, the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition published evidence that the Mediterranean diet lowers the risk of heart disease and early death. The Mediterranean diet is associated with a reduction in all-cause mortality in observational studies. Olive oil has been studied as a potential health factor for reducing all-cause mortality and the risk of chronic diseases. The principal aspects of this diet include proportionally high consumption of unprocessed cereals, legumes, olive oil, fruits, and vegetables, and moderate consumption of fish, dairy products (mostly cheese and yogurt), and meat products. While inspired by a specific time and place, the "Mediterranean diet" was later proven and refined based on the results of multiple scientific studies. This differentiates it from Mediterranean cuisine, which occurs naturally in Mediterranean countries and is inherent to them. The Mediterranean diet is a diet inspired by the eating habits and traditional food typical of Portugal, southern Spain, southern Italy, Crete and much of the rest of Greece discovered internationally in the early 1960s. Some of the products that make up the Mediterranean diet The bone clocks characters6/10/2023 This new novel offers up a rich selection of domestic realism, gothic fantasy and apocalyptic speculation, stretching around the world from the Margaret Thatcher era of the 1980s to the Endarkenment of 2043. Marinus.)īut don’t let the high walls of his fan club intimidate you. (Why, there’s Jason Taylor’s cousin from “Black Swan Green.” And my, my - it seems like a thousand autumns since we last saw Dr. Devout Mitchellians are already cross-referencing the names and locales of “The Bone Clocks” in the ever-accreting concordance to his works. The presumption of an interconnected puzzle hangs over these narrators as though Mitchell’s oeuvre were some massive literary sudoku. Like “Cloud Atlas,” one of Mitchell’s earlier novels shortlisted for the Booker, “The Bone Clocks” presents a curio cabinet of apparently disparate stories, but readers should be onto his tricks by now. One bookseller told me that a customer offered money to be allowed to sit in the store and read an advance copy of “The Bone Clocks.” Named a finalist for the Booker Prize more than a month before publication, the novel has finally descended incarnate from the mind of this divinely inventive author. Like Thomas Pynchon and Haruki Murakami - to whom he’s often compared - Mitchell excites his culty fan base into fits of rapture. Anticipation started pooling around David Mitchell’s magical new novel as soon as the title was revealed last year. |
